Hydra is a genus of small freshwater hydrozoans belonging to the phylum Cnidaria. These organisms are solitary, carnivorous, and jellyfish-like in form, typically found in temperate and tropical regions.
Unlike most animals, Hydra do not possess a natural lifespan and are considered biologically immortal. They continuously regenerate their cells using interstitial stem cells, preventing aging (senescence) and enabling them to avoid death from old age. Instead, they typically die only due to external causes such as predation or lack of food.
